Occupying a central district between London's West End and the City of London, Holborn has recently been re-branded Midtown by creative estate agents. It is a brilliant place to work and to play!
It is the heart of the capital for lawyers and barristers, as well as journalists. Many of the major players in the media world are situated in Holborn. Around the Inns of Court and the Temple, there is a huge variety of desirable restaurants and wine bars which are frequented by the many lawyers who work in the locality. By day, this commercial area is bustling with activity but it is relatively quiet in the evenings and during weekends. The Inns of Court, where barristers train and practice, is a noteworthy example of London's Gothic architecture. Unfortunately, public access is limited although visitors are at liberty to tour the grounds and gardens on week days. Lincoln's Inn Fields is the biggest public square in London and its quaint chapel is one of London's little hidden gems.
Somerset House now plays home to a superb 18th century art gallery offering fascinating collections owned by the Courtauld Institute Gallery.
The British Museum is a short distance away - easy to walk, as is Covent Garden where you can meander around and enjoy the colourful street theatre and musical entertainment. The Sir John Soane Museum is worth seeing.
Apart from the variety of upmarket restaurants in Holborn, the district offers some brilliant traditional English pubs serving beer and olde English fare as well as chic bars and venues.
Holborn is a popular choice for business travellers requiring a short stay apartment or hotel whilst working in the City of London. Many international headquarters are situated in the vicinity, there is plenty to do, public transport links are excellent and Oxford Street is close by.
Holborn has two underground stations - Temple and Chancery Lane with City Thameslink and Blackfriars being the main railway stations in the area. Car parking available at Drury Lane NCP and Bloomsbury Square Car Park.
